The goal for this house addition and renovation was to build a safe room which serves as the owner’s office, kitchenette, den, master bathroom, and children’s bedroom. An existing bedroom was converted into a library which served as a link between the existing house and new addition. The new wing of the house includes a solid concrete roof structure that makes the space a self contained safe room with an emergency generator, solar water heater and energy efficient air conditioning to provide relief in the event of the loss of power. A two car garage was added to an existing two car garage. An addition on the opposite side of the house incorporated a new 500 s.f. two tier seating media room with self contained climate control. A new front covered entry was added as well as a new standing seam metal roof and siding to enhance the southern look of the house. New impact doors and windows were retrofit into the existing house and the new addition.
