The existing kitchen had a finished ceiling height of 7’-10”. The space had minimal natural light and was broken up with cabinets hanging from the ceiling dividing the kitchen from the dining area and along the exterior wall. The existing space felt very dark and oppressive. The client wanted to open the entire area and eliminate the kitchen dining table. She loves to cook and wanted to have a central hub for everyone to be together. With an adjacent dining room, she wanted a large island for the family to sit around informally for most meals. She had an extensive list of appliances she wanted along with a request for maximum storage.
